"I visited you last year. I have thankfully not smoked since the session, and it is unequivocally down to the assistance that you provided. Many thanks"

In all my time of helping people to quit smoking, I cannot ever recall anyone saying that they always wanted to be a smoker.  Most people start smoking in their teens, some in childhood, some in their twenties or thirties.  Most people believe that they will smoke for a while and then easily stop.

Are you still smoking?  If you are ready to stop, you may as well do it now.  Otherwise, another decade may go by.  Then, (if you are lucky), another decade….

We condition ourselves to believe that smoking is difficult to stop.  Yet, many people find it easy using hypnotherapy.  And, when you approach it differently, the decision to stop poisoning your body on a continual basis, and to feel and look healthy again is an easy decision, isn’t it?

Some answers to frequently asked questions

Why should I quit?
Only you can answer that question.  You will have your own reasons to quit that are important to you.  If you don’t feel that you should stop, or that you don’t want to stop smoking yet, then wait until you are ready.

Why one session?
Studies have shown that if you are offered treatment over 6 sessions, you are most likely to stop on the 6th session.  If you are offered treatment over 4 sessions, then you are most likely to stop on the 4th session, and if you are offered treatment for one session, then you are most likely to stop in the one session.  There is no need to draw out the treatment, costing more of your cash and more of your health.

Always one session?
I offer a one-hour follow on session at normal rates for any client who feels that they need that little extra support.  I also offer support CDs to play after the session for £12 for a 30 minute CD.

What is your success rate?
Any hypnotherapist who is asked this question should give you the honest answer, “I don’t know”.  When you come for quit smoking therapy, your session is for you.  You are not part of a controlled research study where you are obliged to complete research feedback forms after the session.

Many therapists claim a success rate but this cannot be measured unless it is part of a controlled research study.   A ‘success rate’ offered by some therapists can be based on the number of people who ‘don’t come back’, which is not the same thing at all.

What we do know is that meta-analysis of controlled experimental studies carried out by researchers show that hypnotherapy is one of the most successful methods of quitting smoking, far more effective than patches, gum or willpower alone.  Even better, it is one of the most relaxing, enjoyable, simplest and quickest for the client.

What I can tell you about my own therapy for quitting smoking is that the majority of my quit smoking clients are referred by their friends, partners, colleagues or neighbours who have already successfully quit smoking after visiting my consulting rooms.  It is common for me to hear “my friend came to see you last year and they still aren’t smoking…now I’d like to stop too.”

What do I need to do before the session?
Nothing, continue smoking as normal.  Set the day and time of your appointment in your mind as the day that you are quitting.  At some point before the session that means you will be smoking your last cigarette.  You can, if you wish, throw away ash trays, lighters etc and clean the house, car, or anywhere that usually has the smell of smoking attached to it.  Let your friends know what you are doing if you wish and gather their support.

What shall I do now I am ready to quit?
Go to the Contact Us page of this website and look at the venues, times and prices grid.  Note that Stop Smoking sessions last for two hours and therefore sessions are charged at double normal rates.  You can book appointments either by telephone or by email.
