"I feel like I have been on holiday"
client after first hypnotherapy session

SO WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE SESSIONS?

The initial stage of therapy always begins with a consultation.  The consultation, like all other sessions, will last for 1 hour.  The consultation is a vital part of therapy.  Apart from the opportunity for you to get to know your therapist, you will have any questions answered or concerns addressed.  Your therapist may ask you a number of questions and may take brief notes.  These questions will help both you and your therapist to gain a fuller understanding of your problem and help you to focus on what you would like the outcome of the sessions to be.

It is normal to feel a little anxious in new situations, and meeting a therapist for the first time is no exception.  Your therapist will do her best to ensure that you feel comfortable and relaxed.
During the consultation, your therapist will offer a suggested treatment programme, which may be just the single session or may be a number of sessions planned over a short period of time.  Generally, hypnotherapy works as a short, solution focused therapy, and it is common for clients to come to therapy for 2 – 4 sessions.  Some issues may require just one session, some may require more.  Psychotherapy may be longer term support, or short term solution focused.

Your therapist is experienced and trained in a wide variety of techniques.  Therapy is at its most effective when it is tailored to a client’s personality and needs.  At the consultation your therapist will create a schedule of change which will utilize what your therapist considers to be the most effective methods of treatment.
How many sessions you need depend on the issue, your motivation to change, and how you feel comfortable working. Each of your sessions will be for a therapeutic hour (just short of one hour), unless we arrange differently. How often you have sessions depends on your availability and your needs. Clients often opt for weekly sessions.

Your session will take place in a warm and comfortable room, where you can relax completely.  You do not need to bring anything with you to the session, nor do you need to wear any special clothing.
If we are using hypnotherapy in the sessions, the process will be fully explained to you and you will be told what to expect.  No hypnotherapy will take place without you being aware of what is happening, and your therapist will let you know when hypnosis is about to start.  You will be gently guided into relaxation, and you will be given plenty of time to ensure that you reach a pleasant deep feeling of relaxation so that therapy can take place.

After the session you will be gently guided back to full wakefulness and alertness.  Your therapist will ensure that you are fully awake before closing the session.  At the end of the session, you will be fine to carry on with the rest of your day.
